Construction Law & Litigation

The attorneys at SMVT advise and represent clients in many facets of the real estate development and construction industries. SMVT’s clients include property owners, developers, design professionals, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. We often provide advice and assistance to clients during contract negotiations keeping an eye towards avoiding trouble in the future.

When disputes develop, we work creatively to find solutions as alternatives to expensive and time-consuming litigation or arbitration. We understand that time is precious in development and construction and know-well that time in court can be time wasted even when their clients are in the right. In instances where difficulties cannot be resolved, SMVT represents development and construction clients in arbitration and in state and federal court litigation. We work towards finding favorable, cost-effective resolutions for our clients.

The attorneys at SMVT also have significant experience in perfecting and enforcing or, where appropriate, defending statutory liens. Liens on property and funds-owed may be provided by North Carolina’s General Statutes to professionals, suppliers and contractors involved in property development and construction including architects, brokers, contractors, engineers, subcontractors and trades of all types.

Related to its representation of construction and property development clients, SMVT assists companies and individuals with matters involving their professional and occupational licensing boards and sorting through Workers Compensation insurance premium audits.
