Hugh Stevens Writes on Boyce v. Cooper

On his blog, About the First Amendment, SMVT partner Hugh Stevens writes articles and commentary about the First Amendment, society and history. In a recent post, Hugh offered his insights into the upcoming Boyce v. Cooper trial. The lawsuit, in which Dan Boyce sued Roy Cooper for libel, grows out statements made in the 2000 election cycle. Nearly a decade and a half later, the case seems poised to head to trial. Hugh writes:

…now, long after the campaign that fomented it has faded into history, the participants stand on the verge of a jury trial that never should have occurred – and which is likely to generate further appeals and litigation, regardless of its outcome.

Hugh’s blog post is a follow up to an earlier North Carolina Law Review articleYou can read the full post here.
